If the user code does not unlock your Schlage lock and the Schlage button lights green then red, with 1 high and 1 low beeps, it is because vacation mode is enabled. Schlage Lock Won’t Stay Locked (Unlocks Without User Code)

Sometimes, your Schlage deadbolt could open by the mere press of the button even though you already have a user code set up.

The biggest cause of this problem is an installation error.

The issue happens when you don’t follow the right procedure when assembling the lock onto the door.

  • During installation, ensure that the deadbolt is installed at the door’s edge with its bolt retracted
  • The gray plastic cam that is on the inside of the mounting plate should be pointing down.
  • The cam has a triangle on the side opposite the driver bar. Ensure that this triangle matches with the triangle on the cover plate

If you did not follow these instructions when assembling the lock, you will have to dismantle it to a level where you can

  • Retract the bolt
  • Turn the cam to the right position without moving the bolt

In most cases, you will have to withdraw the flat driver bar fully to accomplish this. After this, the driver bar should go through the cam at a 45-degree angle.
